This Drawing was made in 1997, was developing Art for a portfolio to ILM to see if i could get onto the crew for the 1st Star Wars sagas.
Didnt make it but got a nice letter from Art Director Doug Chiang.
The Idea of this, was a Pre-Clone War era X-Wing, this version had no Droid "socket" and was not a deep space fighter, as you can see it has
an open canopy. Lots of people seem to like this one, i like it better than my 2nd attempt with the droid socket, i may have to do a colour one soon. This was drawn with a 0.5 mechanical pencil.

I think this would work better as Rick Hunter personal jet spaceship in a RoboTech/Macross Live Action movie with some modification, and it looks safe enough to be a toy.

IF it gets made :(...

And it doesnt look like its going to be.

I am VERY afraid how it will turn out if it does, if youre gonna do it right, have all the designs done by the ORIGINAL Japanese Concept Artists (especially the Mech) and I would lean to having the Soundtrack done by Japanese composers as well (Yoko Kanno, Kenji Kawai).
But man, they had frickin' "Lawrence Kasden" writing it (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders and director of Silverado and Grand Canyon), they blew it when they lost him :(.

Thank you though for the compliment, I wouldnt mind working on the project :).

No wonder you didn't get the gig. You NAILED the Star Wars design ethic (circa the Joe Johnston/Nilo Rodis-Jamero era). Chiang couldn't, which is why he changed everything to his style of design. Don't feel bad; this is what the prequel hero mecha should have looked like!

Nope - he was competing with Doug Chiang himself. He didn't win because it's better than what Doug came up with.

GOSH!
Thank you guys for the nice comments! Been away from here because of "life", so hearing positive things about my work is always a morale booster.
I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with my skills(?). . . and life.
